As a pilot, you’ve most likely flown to popular vacation destinations around the world. And, if you’re like most people within our industry, during these trying times it’s important to find ways to “get away” from the current stresses of day-to-day life. In other words, you need a vacation. The good news is that you don’t need to travel to get the benefits of a vacation. By taking a “staycation” you can create that away feeling without ever leaving home. The idea of a good staycation is to do all the things you would do if you were to travel somewhere, but incorporate those experiences within your own home.
Here are 5 ways you can create a relaxing “vacay” at home and have some fun!
Like visiting spas while on vacation? Replicate that environment at home. Start by getting some fresh bath towels, scented candles, and bath salts. Then pamper yourself with a hot bubble bath while listening to some soothing music. Or spend a day teaching yourself how to do the perfect facial or exfoliating body scrub.
A lot of times, we just don’t appreciate the terrific things in the communities in which we live. So take the time to explore your town and visit tourist attractions, parks, and local stores you’ve never seen before. Green spaces are especially good for discovering because science shows that people who spend time in green spaces often have lower rates of high blood pressure and depression. And be sure to visit neighborhood restaurants and businesses. You’ll enjoy it and help the local economy at the same time!
Maybe you were planning on a trip to Europe or Asia this summer. If you had to cancel your trip, bring the destination to you. For example, if you were going to visit Paris, play French music at home, eat French food and of course, drink French wine. No matter where you wanted to escape to, try to recreate that environment and put yourself there!
Backyard camping is a great way to step outside of the ordinary without having to travel far. If you’re lucky enough to have a backyard, grab your sleeping bag and flashlight and head outside to set up the tent.
Pop up the popcorn, get some comfy cushions, then turn off the lights and spend the night watching movies with the family. Check out all the movies online and splurge and rent the movie you wanted to see in the theater!
More than ever, it’s important to recognize how many leisurely activities you can enjoy at home at no cost or hassle. Taking a staycation is a great way to get away from it all!
