If you've recently decided to start looking for a new position or you're looking for your first pilot job, then you'll need to create or update your CV to apply. A CV or resume lays out important details that potential employers want to know about you.
Follow the steps below to create your perfect pilot CV.
This should be the first information at the top of your CV.
Name & Rank - first and in bold
Your Home Address - including your country of residence
Contact Information – full phone number & email address
Date of Birth - not compulsory
Picture - not compulsory, but if included, use a passport style photo
The second portion of your CV should include information about your past work experience.
Start off with your current employer and work down
Ensure you give the airline (Company) name, the dates you work there and the aircraft you flew
Breakdown of your flight hours on each aircraft including total hours, PIC and P2 hours.
Do not include Simulator hours
Mention when you had your last LPC or OPC
Include 'Date of Last Flight' for each aircraft
Give your rating and your certificates
Start your list with your highest qualification and work down
Include only Higher Education
Note the degree, where you studied and when you completed your education
The final area is where you highlight anything else that’s relevant.
Mention your ICAO English Level
List any honour awards you received
Highlight any additional languages you speak
Do not put too much on your CV, try to keep it precise. Keep it short, 1-2 A4 pages
Do not write long paragraphs, use bullet points or short paragraphs where necessary
Do not forget to give your hours broken down
When putting down your flight experience, give the full dates and not just the years you were there
Do not use your work email, use a personal email with a professional sounding address
Do not have grammar errors, always be sure to proof read your CV before you send it out Do not use a fancy font or coloured text, keep your document in a clean and consistent format
Do not lie on your CV, as this could have implications down the line for you, make sure all information on your CV is truthful
We do not recommend sharing your documents via a file sharing platform. Depending on the company you are sending your documents to, their IT security policy they may not be able to access the platform. We recommend that you follow the directions provided by the recruiter, normally published in the job advert, and have your CV in a word or PDF format.
